Frequencies apply per line. On the central trunk — for instance Brunnsparken–Drottningtorget — many lines share the tracks, so in practice a tram comes every two to five minutes.

Special traffic situations
Temporary diversions
Gothenburg is always rebuilding — during track works trams are replaced by buses or diverted via other tracks. Always check the traffic situation in the To Go app before you travel.
Extra trams
For big events at Ullevi, Scandinavium and Liseberg, extra trams reinforce the service — but still expect crowds right after a concert ends.
Slightly less frequent
During the July industrial holiday a summer timetable applies with slightly fewer departures. At the same time, line 9 is extended to Saltholmen for archipelago travellers.
Special timetable
Christmas, New Year and Midsummer have their own timetables — usually Sunday service with extra night departures. Västtrafik publishes holiday times in advance.
Tips for travellers
Practical tips
- Exact departures: times vary per stop — look up your departure in the Västtrafik To Go app or on the real-time display at the stop.
- City centre: between Brunnsparken and Drottningtorget you rarely need a timetable — trams pass every couple of minutes.
- Late evenings: after 22:00 the service thins out to 15–20 minutes between trams — plan your trip home in the route planner.
- Transfers: a single ticket is valid 90 minutes with free transfers — almost always enough for the whole journey on one ticket.
- Disruptions: when service stops, the displays and the To Go app show replacement routes.
