Frequently asked questions

Gothenburg has 12 tram lines and 132 stops — the largest tram network in the Nordic countries. Nearly every line passes Brunnsparken, the network’s great hub, together with the Central Station, Korsvägen and Järntorget.

All of Gothenburg is in Västtrafik’s zone A. A single ticket costs 38 kr for adults and 29 kr for youth, valid for 90 minutes with free transfers. A 24-hour ticket costs 125 kr.

The easiest ways are to tap a contactless bank card on the card reader on board (adult zone A single only) or buy your ticket in the Västtrafik To Go app before boarding. Tickets are also sold at agents such as Pressbyrån and 7-Eleven and in Västtrafik service shops.

The first trams leave around ≈04:30–05:00 on weekdays and the last ones shortly after midnight. On Friday and Saturday nights several lines run night services. Exact times vary by line — check your departure in the To Go app.

Head for the Korsvägen or Liseberg Station stops — several lines go there directly from the city centre in just a few minutes. See our guide Tram to Liseberg.

Tram service in Gothenburg started back in 1879 with horse-drawn trams and was electrified in 1902. Today modern low-floor trams (M32, M33 and M34) run alongside older classics.
